How to install Serpentine MaxBlock Modules with the Weld Tite System

In this article you will learn how to install, step by step, the Serpentine MaxBlock modules with the Weld Tite Attachment System along with the tools needed.

Preparation prior to installation is also covered and subsequent care to obtain optimal results.

Preparation before installation

Use personal protective equipment required for this work including face shield, safety glasses, mask, gloves and rough clothing. 

The work surface should be clean and free of rust, paint and/or any other element that prevents the proper installation of the modules. 

Prior to installation, prepare all tools and equipment needed. A conventional welding machine and a portable welding stud gun is required. Include extra studs in case they are needed.

Before the start of module installation it is required to prepare a folded batten strip, it must bend to the same thickness of the modules installed.

Installation process for MaxBlock modules with Weld Tite System

1.- Using a knife cut the fiber blanket (folded batten strip) to the same dimension of the thickness module.

2.- Place the first module in the initial position of the installation and insert the gun inside the aluminum tube. Position the gun perpendicular to the hot side of the module and press until the tension spring in the gun is fully compressed.

3.- Pull and hold the trigger for the weld to occur and tighten the nut of the pipe against the support module. Do not release the trigger until the module is tight against the wall. Maintain pressure while you are screwing the nut. 

4.- When the gun stops spinning the nut will be tightened and the trigger can be released. Remove the aluminum tube. When the aluminum tube is removed, there will be a small gap in the center of the module. Using your fingers, squeeze the fiber layers to close the gap.

5.- Repeat this operation with as many modules necessary to complete the first row.

6.- After the first row you must place the folded batten strip. This should be as long as the installed modules. Press lightly to compress the batten strip in between the rows of modules. An anchor pin can be used to hold the batten strip to the previous row of modules. An anchor pin should definitely be used for a roof section or any overhead installation. 

7.- Before starting the installation of the second row of modules, use a slide sheet that will help the installation of the following modules. Place the first module and follow the same procedure of the previous row to complete the second row of modules. 

You may need help pressing modules together to achieve a proper compression and seal.

8.- The sheet is used to slide each module on the previous row. Continue the same process until you cover completely the surface of the furnace. Please view our installation video to observe how the slide sheet is used to move modules.

9.- Use scissors to cut plastic straps from modules. This should be done only when the entire furnace section is completed.

10.- Remove the plastic strap from the modules.

11.- Review the entire furnace unit and manually press the fiber where the aluminum tubes were located in the modules. Any openings not closed will cause hot spots on the outside of the furnace steel.

12.- Once the entire furnace unit is covered with modules, water can be lightly sprayed onto the surface of the modules.  

13.- Starting from the top, spray the surface of the modules in a uniform way.

14.- Using a mesh grille, compress smooth and uniformly across the surface of the modules.
